Organised by the Club de Observadores de Aves del Perú (COAP) in collaboration with the Asociación para la Gestión de la Marca Territorial Madre de Dios (AMARCA MDD), this event aims to record as many bird species as possible in a single day, while promoting awareness of the importance of birdlife and its conservation.This year, the event took place from 10-12 May 2024, and thanks to the commitment of dedicated institutions and individuals, Peru managed to position itself in second place worldwide, recording an impressive number of bird species. This achievement is testimony to the collective effort of all those who participated and supported this noble cause.

Global Big Day achievements in Madre de Dios

During the days of 10-12 May, intensive bird recording activities were carried out in the region, which were led by the Club de Observadores de Aves del Perú - COAP - MDD, in coordination with AMARCA and other local organisations.One of the highlights was the logistical support provided by key institutions and individuals, such as the specialist Lic. Josleen Cesar Huatangari Córdova and his team, who ensured that all activities ran smoothly, providing mobility, food and accommodation for the participants.This support was essential for the success of the event and allowed Peru to reach the second place in the world in the recording of bird species.
